Dr. Gyorgy Baffy served as President of HMAA (2012-2014). He received his MD from the University Debrecen and his PhD as an NIH Fogarty Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania. He trained in gastroenterology at the University of Michigan and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He is currently an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Chief of Gastroenterology at the VA Boston Healthcare System. His current research interests are in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma. He published over 80 scientific articles and book chapters. In 2014, he received a Fulbright US Scholar Award to teach at the University of Debrecen. He is a Fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association, the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, the American College of Gastroenterology and the American College of Physicians. He is the recipient of the Hetényi Medal and the Pro Optimo in Gastroenterologia award of the Hungarian Gastroenterological Association.
