Dr. Ildiko Halász is currently President of the New England Chapter of HMAA and member of the HMAA Board of Directors. Dr. Halász received her MD from the University of Debrecen School of Medicine in 1980 and then certified in anesthesiology and intensive care at the Department of Surgery under the mentorship of Árpád Péterffy, one of the founders of modern cardiac surgery in Hungary.

Dr. Halász moved to the United States with her family in 1990. She conducted research in neuroendocrinology at the University of Pennsylvania and published her work in major journals of the field. Subsequently, she obtained additional clinical training in the U.S. and received certification in internal medicine. In 2000 she joined the primary care group at the VA Boston Healthcare System and became Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School. Her academic interests focus on the comprehensive management of obesity and associated disorders among veterans. She has been involved in several multicenter clinical research projects related to this area.

Dr. Halász became a member of HMAA in 1998. She served the HMAA Auxiliary as Secretary (2003-2006) and as President (2006-2009). She has been the President of the HMAA New England Chapter since 2006 and she was elected to the HMAA Board of Directors as an alternate member in 2014.
