Dr. Géza Ács served as member of the Board of Directors in 2006-2008 and he is the Secretary of the HMAA since 2008. He received his MD and PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Debrecen School of Medicine. He was one of the first recipients of the Pro Scientia Award of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 1991. He spent three years at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, MD, as Postdoctoral Fellow and subsequently trained in Anatomic Pathology and Surgical Pathology at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center, Philadelphia, PA. He studied breast pathology with Dr. David Page at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN and gynecologic pathology with Dr. Dwayne Lawrence at Women and Infants Hospital of Rhode Island, Providence, RI and Dr. Robert Kurman at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD. Dr. Ács served as Assistant Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and subsequently as Associate Member at the Moffitt Cancer Center and Associate Professor of Oncologic Sciences and Pathology and Cell Biology at the University of South Florida College of Medicine, Tampa, FL.
Dr. Ács is currently Medical Director of Breast and Gynecologic Pathology at Women’s Pathology Consultants, Ruffolo Hooper & Associates in Tampa, FL. His research interests focus on the mechanisms of lymphatic tumor metastasis, and histologic and molecular prognostic/predictive factors in breast cancer. He has received numerous grants and has lead or been part of various clinical studies pertaining to breast and gynecologic cancers. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters, as well as a book on Near Death Experiences. He is an active participant in CME activities presenting numerous lectures and courses on national and international meetings. Dr. Ács has served on various scientific review panels and he is on the Editorial Board of several Pathology journals.
