Dear Members and Friends,
It is with great sadness that the family of Franciska Harangozó announces her passing.
After a long, adventurous, and rewarding life, our mother, Franciska Harangozó, is finally at rest. Franciska was born on March 8, 1935 to her parents Geosits Károly and Rumpl Julianna. She was the oldest child of three followed by her brothers Vince and Péter.
As a result of the Hungarian revolution in 1956, along with her betrothed, Harangozó Ferenc (Hari), Franciska left her home of Szentpéterfa at the young age of 21. They wed in a refugee camp in Austria. As they started their new life in the Unites States, Franciska gave birth to four children, Andrea, Istvan, Ivan and Valerie. Regrettably, Istvan passed away at the mere age of four months. Each Sunday after mass, our family visited his grave as a usual Hungarian, small-town custom. Our parents always told us they came to this country to provide us a better life and education. Franciska walked us to grade school in snowstorms and downpours. She did not work until Valerie began high school. In addition to learning the Hungarian language at home, our parents enrolled us in Hungarian school, scouts and folk-dance on Saturdays for many years to introduce us to their Hungarian culture.
Franciska always concerned herself with others’ wellbeing and went out of her way to make sure everyone was comfortable. Her cooking was phenomenal, but her cakes and cookies were exceptional. You typically took a plate of desserts home with you. Franciska called her brothers and Hari’s family on a regular basis. If she didn’t, they thought something was awry. She looked for good in all and hoped and prayed that peace and love would prevail. She always said “Everyone should get along.”
Franciska’s family was her everything. She is survived by her eldest daughter, Andrea (Tom Lennon); Ivan (Cornelia Szele) who have four children, Ivan (Kate), Victor (Celia), Stephanie and Sofie. Mom was also blessed to enjoy three great grandchildren – Leo, Francis and Brooks; Valerie (Gustave Menocal) and their children Gustave, Julia and Robert.
Mom’s heartfelt love and gentle demeanor will be missed by many.
Isten nyugasztolja.
